About

Who (the basics):

Hi my name is Carlee and I’m a writer/researcher/trainer/event planner in the education and idea exchange industries based out of Raleigh, North Carolina.

I’ve been blogging about quality of life, careers, and my community from a Gen Y perspective for about a year, been a featured blogger on The Next Great Generation and Brazen Careerist since January 2010 and a freelance correspondent for a local news site, Triangle.com.

As a passionate member of my local community I’m also a volunteer organizer of PechaKucha Nights Raleigh, a fast-paced idea-sharing event put on every 3 months featuring 10-15 local speakers and between 100-250 guests.

Since graduating with highest honors in Psychology & Geography from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2007 I’ve worked in education survey research for a large research & development nonprofit in RTP. There I gained extensive experience in survey data collection and staff training.

When I’m not pursuing any of the above I’m probably coming up with new business ideas, traveling all over the world, listening to music or attending multi-day music festivals, or sharing dinner with my favorite people in the world: my family!

Who (really get to know me):

I’m one of those really hard-working Millenials that won’t take “no” for an answer unless you give me a really good reason (because heck, I’m reasonable if nothing else). I find myself often caught between my strong idealism & optimism and even stronger sense of practical reality. I’m motivated by success on my own terms and it must have been a horror to raise such an independent thinker as myself who made her own rules for life at an early age.

Despite my seriousness about making everything as efficient as possible, I’m willing to throw it all out the window for an experience, connection, or relationship that improves ones quality of life. I’ve been known to jump impulsively at new opportunities and experiences for the sake of happiness & personal growth, and regret nothing.

Pet peeves: dishonesty, lack of integrity, laziness, close-mindedness, boringness, and to-the-book rule followers.

I truly believe that we can have the life that we want and I’m here to help others realize that they can shape their own life and career. There is no roadmap for life, no matter what others tell you.
