It’s already been three weeks since our last PechaKucha Night. Since we’ve already made a lot of headway getting the next set of speakers together for the September event at SPARKcon it feels more like months ago, though!
I wanted to take a moment to relive and reflect on that night.
It was such a great event though that I can still feel the energy in the room. By Carlee Mallard, on March 30th, 2010% As some you may know, I helped organize an event this month called Pecha Kucha. While you’re still trying to figure out how to pronounce that, I’m already basking in the warm-n-fuzzy creative juices as a result of the presentations and the engaging audience.
I will admit that I was unable to focus and didn’t comprehend all of the speakers’ presentations at the time of the event due in part to being an organizer and trying to make sure everything went smoothly and in part due to the extremely distracting & noisy sorority girls present in the room. They’re all aimed at engaging the local community thought leaders with the rest of the community through presentations. They’re all one-night events coordinated by a local (unpaid) team.
But they each have their own origin and consequently a different path for achieving essentially the same goal: sharing great ideas. I went to my second lecture presentation last week where John Robert Smith (former Mayor of Meridian, MS and member of Amtrak‘s board) and James Corless (Director of Transportation for America) spoke about the future of high speed rail in the US and how it will affect our own growing city.
